Four major European Awards for ParkLake and Sonae Sierra
23 May 2017

I believe that nothing could have made April better than the news of the four awards we received. So, for those who don’t know it yet: at the 12th Annual SEE Real Estate Awards in Bucharest, Romania, Sonae Sierra won the prize for Best Retail Developer, while ParkLake, our shopping centre that recently opened in Bucharest, was named the Best Retail Project of the Year in South Eastern Europe. But the good news didn’t stop there: on that same evening, but in Prague, at the CIJ HOF (Hall of Fame) Awards 2017, ParkLake was amongst the Best of Best category and won the award for Best Retail Development & Developer across CEE & SEE region. Later, in the evening of April 26, ParkLake reconfirmed its European flagship position by winning The Building of the Year SEE award, in Warsaw, at the CEEQA (Central & Eastern European Real Estate Quality Awards),  in an annual event for the  New Europe property sector spanning 18 countries across Central & Eastern Europe and Southeast Europe, organised in association with the Financial Times and in partnership with Deloitte.

Four awards, three different entities and our work appreciated and recognised across Europe – isn’t that what we strive to achieve every day? As far as Sonae Sierra is concerned, we are very satisfied to see the acknowledgement of the work done in creating the most modern and attractive shopping and leisure destination in Bucharest, with new tenant-mix and concepts, as well as an impressive design and architecture with stunning themed entertainment created exclusively for ParkLake – a Shopping Centre that also became a sustainability example.

These awards recognise not only outstanding achievement in property development across CEE & SEE, but also quality of design, quality of construction and the construction processes in relation to costs, environmental concerns, accessibility and location. I truly believe that we are accomplishing the goal to create spaces that offer a pleasant and attractive stay - while also respecting the surrounding environment - and that Sonae Sierra must continue on this path, always aiming to improve and develop the best solutions for every challenge.

Last year, Sonae´s Innovation Team visited Stanford University to challenge the teams from Porto Design Factory (Portugal), Swinburne University (Australia) and University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy) that were participating in ME310 program using Stanford/IDEO’s design methodology. After seven months of work, the teams went back to Stanford and presented Project Ghisallo - a new solution of urban mobility for Berg Cycles - and Super Worten Project - a device to improve post-sales assistance to Worten customers.
